What is a snuffle mat?

A snuffle mat is a feeding game created to keep your pup happy and entertained.  Like a feeding mat, if your dog likes to use their sense of smell, this game is extremely satisfying bringing out their natural instincts to root and find hidden rewards. Fleece snuffle mats are also good to encourage slower eating by making your dog hunt and sniff out their meals. Snuffle mats keep dogs minds younger, more stimulated and will wear them out. Thinking and solving problems can get exhausting. As the old saying rings true, “A tired dog is a happy dog.”

Any animal that enjoys forging for food such as cats, ferrets, hamsters, rabbits and even pigs can use a snuffle mat! Made with hundreds of fleece fabric strips, carefully woven on a solid 12×12 inch rubber mat, it will withstand the most enthusiastic pet.

How do you use a snuffle mat?

1. Start out by scattering a few treats on top of the toy for your dog to easily find. Use the command “find it” to train your dog it’s hunting time. We recommend using kibble or solid treats for easier clean up.

2. Once they have learned the mat is a positive reward, start beginners with hiding treats in the longer fleece strips. Encourage your dog to root around within the mat! This is an interactive dog game so using words such as “Good girl! Keep finding it” will keep your dog thinking and on a mission.

3. Finally, bury the treats deeper in the shorter fleece strips making the game more challenging and mentally stimulating.

How do I clean and care for a snuffle mat?

Since the mat is made of rubber material, hand wash and let air dry. Always use supervision and put away when not in use. Do not let your dog chew as they are not a chew toy.
